Sasha is a freelance writer and commercial model based in Sussex. A former London PR and media maven, she spent most of the nineties and noughties having adventures with glamorous and exciting people in the worlds of consumer brands and TV. That was quite a long time ago now though and these days she’s a mum to two spirited boys and a small dog and married to a lovely, shy man. Needless to say she loves fashion, style and the sheer joy, expression and empowerment that can come with it. Always looking for a culture buzz and beauty in the everyday.
What I Love
For clothes shopping?
Discounted designer, smaller labels and quality high street – I’m pretty much in thrall to it all. But it’s mainly ASOS, Zara, Mango and The Outnet, Ebay and Kurt Geiger. Netaporter and Liberty for inspiration, Victoria Health for vitamins and Space NK for beauty. Graham & Green for interiors.
Porter by far – intelligent and cultured and aimed at an older audience with amazing photography and travel editorials – everything about it resonates. Ok the clothes are beyond reach price wise for me but love the attitude. Also WhoWhatWear, Vogue, The Economist and HFM and Instagram of course.
Most worn outfit?
Evening – Baukjen leather trousers and black silk printed Altuzarra for Target top and Kurt Geiger boots. Day – J Brand jeans and Zoe Karssen t-shirt or comfy joggers and bright trainers on school run.
Stuff of Dreams?
Alexander McQueen, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, Isabel Marant and Altuzarra.
The Goldfinch (Donna Tartt), A heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (Dave Eggers) and Charlotte Bronte’s Wuthering Heights. The Book of Jewish Food (Claudia Roden) – so much more than a cook book – a cultural history with wonderful photos from all over the globe.
Favourite films of all time?
Picnic at Hanging Rock, Napoleon Dynamite, Three Colours Trilogy, Beau Travail, Rust and Bone, Taken and Dodgeball (!)
True Detective, Nordic Noir, Odd Mom Out, VEEP, Stranger Things, Twin Peaks, any series with Simon Schama.
London: Nobu, J Sheeky’s, Veeraswamy’s.
Elsewhere: Country bistros in France, Vietnamese street food and beach shacks in Crete serving fresh fish and fried olive oil potatoes.
Thai and Vietnamese. Greek spanakopita pie. My mum’s amazing homemade Indian food – Sindhi curry, daal and potato with cauliflower. A good steak frites. A great big goblet of ruby Argentinian Malbec also goes down well with me.
Favourite travel destinations?
France mostly. Also Puglia, Northern California, Vietnam and European city breaks. Next on the list are trips to Paris and Berlin.
Varied but at the moment it’s mainly, Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars, Florence and the Machine, Bat For Lashes, Grace Jones, Duran Duran, Gerry Rafferty, Bob Dylan, First Aid Kit, Dua Lipa … I could go on.
Laughter? Most stuff written by Armando Ianucci, Kristen Wiig, Sharon Horgan, Steve Coogan or Chris Morris, the film Bridesmaids, and my husband.
