Sasha is a freelance writer and event organiser based in Sussex. A former London PR and media maven, she spent most of the nineties and noughties having adventures with glamorous and exciting people in the worlds of consumer brands and TV. That was quite a long time ago now though and these days she’s a mum to two spirited boys and a small dog. Needless to say she loves fashion, style and the sheer joy, expression and empowerment that can come with it. Always looking for a culture buzz and beauty in the everyday.
What I Love
For clothes shopping?
Discounted designer, French labels and quality high street – I’m pretty much in thrall to it all. But it’s mainly The Outnet, Zara, Sandro, BA&SH, Maje and local preloved fashion shops. Victoria Health for vitamins and Space NK for beauty. Graham & Green for interiors.
Porter by far – intelligent and cultured and aimed at an older audience with amazing photography and travel editorials – everything about it resonates. Ok the clothes are beyond reach price wise for me but love the attitude. Also Vogue, Sheerluxe, The Economist and HFM and Instagram of course.
Lycra is my best friend. In winter – form fitting leggings or jeans with a longer top. A good, well cut coat or jacket always. Stacked boots. In summer its a rotation of dresses. Daily it’s a form fitting skirt from Iro or Hush with a quality t-shirt and trainers.
Stuff of Dreams?
Alexander McQueen, Iro Paris, Isabel Marant, Dior.
The Goldfinch (Donna Tartt), Charlotte Bronte’s Wuthering Heights. The Book of Jewish Food (Claudia Roden) – so much more than a cook book – a cultural history with wonderful photos from all over the globe. Untamed by Glennon Doyle.
Favourite films of all time?
Picnic at Hanging Rock, Napoleon Dynamite, Beau Travail, Rust and Bone, Taken and Dodgeball.
True Detective, Nordic Noir, Odd Mom Out, VEEP, Stranger Things, Twin Peaks, any series with Simon Schama.
Music? Where to begin… From Bob Dylan to bluegrass, disco to deep house… always searching.
Thai and Vietnamese. Greek spanakopita pie. My mum’s amazing homemade Indian food – Sindhi curry, daal and potato with cauliflower. A good steak frites.
Favourite travel destinations?
France mostly. Also Puglia, Northern California, Vietnam and European city breaks. Take me anywhere!
Laughter? Most stuff written by Armando Ianucci, Kristen Wiig, Sharon Horgan, Steve Coogan or Chris Morris, the film Bridesmaids.
